I don't know how many members have heard about this show, but it has aired in Australia for two seasons and it's returning this month with a third! It's a police-procedural along the lines of Canada's Flashpoint, except the police unit in question (called Tactical Response Unit or TRU) is somewhere in between regular uniforms and paramilitary SWAT. They are sort of the first-responder paramedics of law enforcement, and the fact they must react to the crime as it progresses allows for some pretty good car chase opportunities in their souped-up Ford Territories. It's the only Australian-produced TV show I actually bother with! :)

Previous seasons have some nice chases like in one episode involving illegal street racing and another involving a hijacked tour bus. The new season promises to be even bigger than before, with what looks like a game of chicken against an aircraft along a runway.

The second season's episodes are available online, though I'm not sure if they can viewed outside Oz.

And the first season is available on iTunes.

And just for fun, here's a fan TV spot I did last year for the second season to the New Police Story theme:

New 'First Look' preview clip has been posted online, featuring the runway car chase. Looks pretty spectacular, so far.

"Leon, tell him again and put on your serious voice!"

If you've been following this thread and my recent sigs, you'd have known I was fangushing about the return of Australia's homegrown police procedural, Rush. Based on the real-life Critical Incident Response Team of the Victorian Police Force, the fictionalized version (aptly dubbed as Tactical Response Unit) handles emergencies too dangerous for uniforms, but not quite warranting the Special Operations Group big-guns. This season's opener begins spectacularly enough with a terrifying 'game of chicken' against an aircraft, and just keeps going with helicopter heists, serial bombings, and a seige at a cash deposit facility.

Rodger Corser, the bloke some Aussies might recognise from the Hyundai ads, leads the team as the indomitable Sergeant Lawson Blake, but is in danger in cracking from the fallout from last season's failed bus hijacking hostage rescue attempt. Stella (my favourite character next to 'Sergeant Awesome' played by the lovely Nicole da Silva) copes with her new job as a uniform after resigning from the team when Internal Affairs uncovered she accidentally killed a civilian in the bus rescue. She struggles with her feelings for Michael, her former colleague. Bad-tempered Josh tries to rein in the eager greenie Christian, played by newcomer Kevin Hofbauer. Tough sheila Shannon and family man Dom round up the rest of the team. And of course, Police Chief Kerry Vincent gets to pout a lot and chide Sergeant Awesome whenever he steps out of line, with a little help from tech whiz Leon.

It seems like the producers have really pulled out all the stops; this episode is the most professional-looking of the entire series and features better cinematography (less shakey cam!) than previous seasons. When the chopper lifts away from the team with the bandits escaping with the loot, that moment was almost cinematic. If this is the standard they've set for the rest of the season, I can't wait to tune in every week for my adrenaline dose! :)

Season 4 of RUSH starts September 1st! 6 years 3 months ago #9669

If anyone's wondering what on Earth's my sig's on about, it's just my way of plugging the return of one of my favourite Australian TV shows of all-time: Rush. Based on the real-life Critical Incident Response Team in Victoria, the fictional Tactical Response Unit fills an operational gap, handling cases deemed too dangerous to be handled by uniformed officers, but not warranting the attention of the Special Operations Group. Armed with the latest non-lethal weaponry and trained for crisis negotiation, this highly mobile and agile rapid response unit roams the streets of Melbourne, protecting its citizens from violent criminals and defusing volatile scenarios.

The show has run for three seasons. This year's season will be a mini-series length of about 13 or so episodes, but while I'm disappointed about its shorter run, the events this season will be more exciting! The official synopsis describes the assassination of a Victorian premier and how a new boss (Outrageous Fortune's Anthony Starr) is brought in to the team to handle a task-force investigating the case. Of course, there will be the usual kidnappings, armed robberies, and hostage situations throughout, as well as the usual on-off romantic dalliances between the members. ;)

Here's the official synopsis:
Since 2008, Rush has established itself as an action-drama series of the highest calibre. Distinguished by exceptional production values, Rush is a character-driven action series in the truest sense, headlined by an outstanding Australian cast.
Based on the real-life Critical Incident Response Team, a branch of the Victorian Police Force, the members of Tactical Response (TR) aren’t your average police officers. They’re highly trained, equipped with specialist skills and weaponry which support their fundamental aim of non-lethal policing. Their ability to think laterally in the heat of a crisis is also crucial. Backed by comprehensive intelligence and cutting-edge technology, TR is better placed than anyone to stay one step ahead of the criminals and intercept them before any harm is done.
They’re hand-picked as the cream of the crop, each with their own specialty areas and all in peak condition, physical and mental. It takes a certain type of temperament to go from defusing a bomb to pursuing an armed offender through peak hour traffic within the span of a shift. To some, that would be more than enough to turn them mad. For the officers of Tactical Response, it’s what keeps them sane.
This year sees RUSH cover a bigger story arc across the season’s thirteen episodes, kicking off from a game-changing incident in episode one - the assassination of the police minister. This sparks the formation of a major crime taskforce, with TR the tactical component of the investigation. A much bigger world has just opened up.

Now in its fourth season, RUSH is a Southern Star John Edwards production for Network Ten with the assistance of Film Victoria. Last year, Season Three was the winner of Best Television Drama Series at the Australian Film Institute (AFI) awards.

If you like shows like Hawaii Five-0, NCIS, or Flashpoint, this home-grown Aussie drama's a must-see! If you're a car chase fan like 100% of members here, the show has a good track record for 'short and sweet' car chases. You can watch a few from Season 2 below:

RUSH Season 4 Promo Spoof Dub 6 years 3 months ago #9677

Only 2 MORE DAYS, car chase fans! In the meantime, check my voiceover spoof and comment! ;)

TACITURN RESPONSE GETS A NEW BOSS... LIKE A BOSS!

Being a massive fan of the Aussie police drama 'Rush' for the past three seasons, it is with great anticipation that I await the premiere of its fourth and possibly final season this Thursday. I hope to the God of TV Networks that Channel Ten will consider renewing this series, seeing how it has a huge fanbase and other Aussie dramas like Sea Patrol and Rescue Special Ops have already copped it, with City Homicide in indefinite limbo. This is about the only Australian TV show that I watch every single episode anyway, so it would be a shame for it to end on such a wimpy note of just 13 episodes.

Anyway, here's my little pisstake of the promo ads running on these past few days. I hope you lot enjoy it, and Channel Ten, please don't remove this. I only have copyright over my voice dubs, the footage belongs to you and the audio to Crystal Method, and my parody is protected under the Fair Use Act, so please don't pull a Viacom on my vids.
