JAMES GARNER RIP 1928-2014 3 years 4 months ago #11481

we have lost another hero. james scott "bumgarner" garner passed away ,july 19.2014, at the age of 86. his had a long life full of some of the best work ever. his earlier work was mostly westerns in the usual slick type roles that he pulled off with ease. always the lady charmer in roles such support your local gunfighter and sheriff. and of course his greatest role, BRET MAVERICK, there was the tv series and several movies over the years, over the years he made several car movies and tv series, GRAN PRIX was perhaps his greatest racing movie thou lesser known to most people. it was more of a movie although it featured gran prix racing scenes of the mid sixties. in 63, he starred with another young actor whose movie, LEMANS would be greatly compared to it, he was STEVE MCQUEEN. the movie was THE GREAT ESCAPE. in the 70s, he played an excon private investagator that took on the worse cases that came along. the show was THE ROCKFORD FILES, he played JIM ROCKFORD. i watched every friday night on NBC. his acting was great as usual but his co star stole the show, the PONTIAC FIREBIRD he drove. he perfected what would be known as the JIM ROCKFORD180. it was a simple front end sliding move that he would use to his advantage to escape the bad guys. even in his last years, he always turned out good roles ,no matter the part.THE NOTEBOOK was a good example thou his part was not advertised as much, made it a much greater movie. he was born in NORMAN, OKLAHOMA but there was a southern charm about him that made him more lovable.GENTLEMAN JIM, you will be missed.
