Fast Film Festival 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

We are holding a film festival in March 2011 which focuses on movies that have the classic car chase as a major focus, movies such as Ronin, The original Italian Job, Mad Max - what we would also like to do is to play some movies that may not be as well known here in Australia, they can either be short films or feature films as long as they compliment our main theme. Could you please give me any advice on where I could purchase movies such as these for a public viewing?

Kind regards

Trish

Sounds like a great film festival Trish.

If you a planning to screen films from a multi-regional DVD player then you could purchase most legendary car chase titles from the main online dvd retail outlets like amazon.

Are there specific titles that you are trying to get a hold of and you are finding difficult to locate?

Lesser known films with chases are my meat and potatoes. These are some of my favorites that should not be missed out on by chase fans.

Moonrunners (1974)
Before The Dukes of Hazzard became a television hit, there was this film. Blue Chryslers ram and beat the living daylights out of police cruisers in the deep south. The chases can be viewed here for references:

Poliziotto Sprint aka Highway Racer (1977)
I have no idea who it was that said that this was Italy's famous car chase film. It happens to be nothing more than the rest of the dramatic exploitative cop flicks released in Italy during the 1970s. The chases are anything but. A Ferrari up against a Citroen and glorifying stunt work is sure to wow audiences.

The Master Touch (1972)
An Opel chases down Christine's American-European cousin down cobblestone roads. For me, the chase is more comedic than action inducing; both cars tear off the doors of a Citroen, a whole DKW sticks to the roof of the traveling Opel (which soon looses it's roof to a railway guard) and the 2 dr Plymouth magically changes to a 4 dr Dodge Polara. Other than that, both cars a beat senseless.

Strange Shadows in an Empty Room (1976)
Canadians can be very quirky when you give them a camera, a Buick, a Mustang and let them tear through city streets. The end result is a chase that doesn't let up for at least nine minutes.

Jigsaw (1972)
After watching the film D.C. Cab, I was determined to find the car chase playing on the drive-in movie screen. Roughly half a decade passed until my research payed off. I can't believe how this TV movie with am exhilarating chase scene could turn up as lost.

Since this festival is taking place in Australia, I trust you'll include The Man from Hong Kong, The Chain Reaction, Metal Skin, Midnite Spares, Goodbye Porkpie or The Road Warrior . You might want to do a IMDB keyword search for "car chase" and see what you come up with. iOffer might have a few to pick from as well. It was where I found Jigsaw.
