An excellent example of some of the best car stunts of the '70s. Genuine crash stunts. (Paul nuckles always had a talent for wrecking big trucks.)
Look for the roll cage inside the automobile after the 1967 Chevy is done rolling, and a killer rollover from a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont88.

Race With the Devil 4 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
DVD released on June 28, 2005.

A perfect Drive-In movie for a warm summer's night in 1975. Roger (Peter Fonda) and Frank (Warren Oates) are vacationing with their wives in an RV, when they see something cult related. Suspense ensues as the two couples try to distance themselves from what they saw, to no avail.

Two 4-minute action scenes near the end punctuate the chase. The Vogue motorhome holds its own against a tow-truck, a pick-up and a 5 ton delivery truck in a no holds barred game of Interstate smash-em. With exemplary RV driving skills, Roger dispatches of the bad guys one at a time. Fantastic action and stunts.

The Dodge pick-up, after a near miss, coming into frame on two wheels was skilled driving indeed.

Sorry for the crappy quality, it's just a pic of the tv!

After two minutes rest at the roadside, Frank takes the wheel. They soon realize they're being set-up to stop at a staged crash scene, where Frank decides to put pedal to metal and keep the big ol' damaged Vogue going. The second 4-minute sequence also featured some incredible stunts. A burning car roll-over, and a fantastic cannon roll. A believable roll-over as Roger had just shot out the rear tire, where you can clearly see the Delmont88 badging on the car. The tire goes flat, the hubcap rolls away, and the Delmont rolls away.

The editing on that stunt was perfect. It looked like it rolled 7 times! Closer slow motion examination reveals a solid 4 roll effort. Very impressive.

Some decent special features as well.

"HELL on WHEELS" is 18 minutes with Peter Fonda from an interview which was done specifically for the release of the DVD. He's funny! The commentary is interesting where we learn that the house being moved in the chase sequence was not part of the script. They made a deal with the movers on the spot and included it in the chase. You'll notice that with all the damage going on, the house remains unscathed!

I recommend this movie!!

i saw this movie at the SKY VUE DRIVE IN when i was about nine. i can't remember the other movie, it was always a double feature. i loved the chase scenes because you didn't know what would pop up. at the end when the fire ring circled the rv that was really cool. it was a well thought out ending. LORETTA SWITT ? just seemed so out of place in this movie, maybe it was just me. i always liked her in a lot of things she did.PETER FONDA was his usual cool self in this movie too. i think he only played one charactor through the seventies. i wish i could remember the other movie.

I recall seeing the film on television in the 1970s for the first time and I loved it. Always a Warren Oates fan too...
